2019-11-26T15:41:49+00:00

ONE OF the successes of the Scotia Bank $20 Challenge says this foundation is a critical launching pad for young entrepreneurs. In 2016, Aidan Charles won the challenge and the award for Innovation And Culinary Arts with the successful launch of his business, Bajan Essential Cuisine. Now 18 years old, Charles said he has been able to maintain his business and repeat clientele, though on a small scale because of school obligations. Charles, who was on hand to help mentor some of the participants in the ninth edition of the challenge during their market place held at Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, [...]

Saturday night saw the glitzy culmination of our involvement in this year’s cycle as we attended the Awards & Cocktail Reception. Both Codrington businesses won two of the evening’s top categories. Classroom to Boardroom 2016

2019-02-08T16:36:37+00:00

Classroom to Boardroom (C2B) 2016 Back in October 2016 I sat in a corporate boardroom in awe of the outcomes of a young woman’s leadership and of two people who worked so hard and presented like consummate professionals. The people that filled me with pride were our very own Saskia (DP 2) and Saxon & Nico (DP 1).  Saskia had spent the week leading a team of 30 people (whom in the main she had never met before) to present solutions in response to a very real challenge. The challenge was set by one of the Caribbean's leading companies, Harris Paints. [...]

What began as a school challenge for a secondary school student has not turned into a passion. Fifteen year old Amber Mckenzie of Codrington school is on a mission to get the defunct Society Primary School back on the track; and she has begun with the donation of over $2,000 --- which she made from the sale of organic mosquito lotion. The fifth former was given $20 and a six week deadline to start a business or manufacture a product, as part of her business management school project under the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation.
